Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos has unveiled a new experience designed for guests seeking to master Mexico’s most celebrated spirit. The three-day “Tequila Connoisseur Certification” program combines guided tastings, food and beverage pairings, and cultural exploration.
The “Tequila Connoisseur Certification” unfolds over three sessions at the all-inclusive resort, each focusing on different aspects of tequila craftsmanship. Day One explores the history and traditional production methods of tequila, complete with tastings of premium blanco varieties paired with ceviche. Guests will gain a deeper understanding through hands-on elements such as soil specimens from tequila-producing regions, samples of blue agave plants and detailed educational materials.
On the second day, participants learn about the impact of barrel-aging on the taste and complexity of tequila. They discover how reposado and añejo tequilas develop their distinctive nuances through carefully controlled aging processes, illustrated with mini-barrels and paired with mole ice cream, pork belly skewers, artisanal chocolates made with Mexican cacao, and Mexican cheeses.
On the third day, participants enjoy a tasting of extra añejos tequilas, aged in diverse barrels (French oak, bourbon, whiskey and sherry) followed by a five-course pairing dinner served under the stars. The menu celebrates regional culinary specialties from Nayarit, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Jalisco—the tequila-producing regions of Mexico—with each course paired with tequilas that showcase the country’s diverse agave heritage. Upon completion of the experience, participants receive an official “Tequila Connoisseur Certification” by Velas Resorts, along with a personalized luxury tequila bottle engraved with their name, a commemorative photo and an educational booklet with details recapping the experience.
The “Tequila Connoisseur Certification” experience is priced at $1,900 for two people. Guests have the option to book the first two parts of the Tequila Connoisseur experience individually, allowing them to explore specific aspects of tequila appreciation at their own pace. However, the exclusive final session with extra añejo tastings and the five-course pairing is available only as part of the complete certification program.
