Two all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen just went from sun-and-fun staples to sustainability standouts.
Viva Maya by Wyndham and Viva Azteca by Wyndham have officially achieved Level 5 Expert status, the highest tier in the Wyndham Green Certification Program. That makes them the first all-inclusive resorts in the entire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts portfolio to reach this milestone.
Level 5 isn’t just a shiny badge. It’s the green elite. Fewer than 50 Wyndham-affiliated hotels worldwide, and just seven in all of Latin America, have earned the designation.

The Wyndham Green Certification Program is a five-level framework designed to help hotels track, improve, and showcase their sustainability efforts. To hit Level 5, properties must go well beyond the basics: measures like full recycling systems, energy-efficient infrastructure, community outreach, guest education, and long-term environmental planning.
Viva Resorts by Wyndham has long made sustainability a brand pillar, with a particular focus on environmental preservation, education and sports initiatives, public health, and community support. From towel and linen reuse to programs that uplift local communities, the brand’s approach blends high-touch hospitality with high-impact values.
Lest we forget: These are still vacation-ready resorts in one of Mexico’s most popular destinations. Clients booking Viva Maya or Viva Azteca can expect beachfront access, all-inclusive dining, resort-style pools, and cultural programming on top of the bragging rights of staying at one of the most eco-progressive properties in the region.
