Travelers looking for spotless hotel rooms should consider Minneapolis, which has been ranked the cleanest hotel market in the United States, according to a new study from residential cleaning service maidsailors.com.
Researchers analyzed more than 9,400 hotels across 123 U.S. cities with populations over 200,000. Minneapolis came out on top with an average cleanliness rating of 8.82 out of 10. The city’s 32 qualifying hotels have drawn more than 15,750 reviews, with The Lofton Hotel Minneapolis, Tapestry Collection by Hilton earning the highest individual score at 9.51. A typical night for one adult costs about $126.55.
Frisco, TX; Seattle, Wash., and Boston, Mass., tied for second place with average scores of 8.80. In Frisco, Drury Inn & Suites Dallas Frisco led the way at 9.37, while rooms averaged $104 a night. Seattle’s 83 properties had more than 80,000 reviews, with The Maxwell Hotel earning a 9.56 score and nightly rates averaging $141.16. Boston proved the priciest among the top 15, at $185.12 a night, though its Boston Yacht Haven posted the highest overall rating in the entire study at 9.84.
Rounding out the top five were Washington, D.C. (8.72) and Chicago (8.68). In the nation’s capital, Conrad Washington, D.C. earned a 9.53 rating, while in Chicago, The Peninsula Chicago scored 9.76. Denver followed in sixth place with 8.63, led by The Acoma House at 9.75.
Other notable cities in the top 10 included Scottsdale, Ariz., and Madison, Wis. (tied at 8.60); Portland, Ore. (8.53); Louisville, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., and McKinney, TX (tied at 8.52); New Orleans, La. (8.51); and Los Angeles, Calif., alongside Spokane, Wash. (both at 8.50).
Joseph Passalacqua, CEO of maidsailors.com, said cleanliness remains a top priority for travelers.
“Travelers have been much more tuned in to cleanliness since the pandemic. And it is, in fact, one of the most important aspects of your stay—you notice it the second you walk into a room,” he said in a statement.
“Hotels in some cities have really stepped up to make sure guests feel at ease—a spotless room makes you feel comfortable and ready to enjoy your trip,” Passalacqua continued. “What’s interesting about this study is it shows you don’t need to spend a fortune for that experience. Frisco and Madison show you can get a budget-friendly stay that’s just as clean as a luxury hotel, while places like Boston prove the high-end spots can give you both comfort and cleanliness.”
The study also highlighted standout properties across the country. Beyond Boston Yacht Haven, top scorers included The Truitt in Kansas City, Mo. (9.81), Drury Plaza Hotel Dallas Arlington in Arlington, TX (9.77), and The Peninsula Chicago (9.76).
