Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill has completed a full-property transformation in advance of its 50th anniversary in 2026, unveiling redesigned guestrooms, modernized meeting and event spaces, refreshed dining and lounge concepts, and upgraded public areas.
The nine-month renovation reimagines the 840-room property, located steps from the U.S. Capitol, with a design inspired by the craftsmanship and architectural heritage of Capitol Hill’s historic neighborhoods.
“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our nine-month transformation to provide international and domestic travelers and local residents with new, more refined accommodations, enhanced culinary experiences, and modernized conference and event spaces for meetings and groups,” said Randy Thompson, general manager of Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, in a statement. “In celebration of our 50th year, the renovation reinforces the hotel’s legacy as the premier hotel and event center in the heart of Capitol Hill.”
Guestrooms and Suites
Accommodations now feature updated furnishings, warm wood tones, black metal accents referencing local rowhouse design, and rivet details inspired by the Capitol dome. Double rooms now include two queen beds, while many king rooms offer new sleeper sofas. Guests will also find 65-inch ultra-HD televisions, enhanced charging ports, and enlarged bathrooms with expanded vanities and modern fixtures.

Meetings and Events
With more than 38,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 11,388-square-foot Regency Ballroom, the hotel continues to serve as one of Capitol Hill’s largest event venues. The updated spaces feature design elements referencing local architecture, including carpet patterns inspired by historic windows and lighting that symbolizes handshakes to represent deal-making. Many rooms also provide views of the U.S. Capitol, including the 3,048-square-foot Thornton Room.
Dining and Public Spaces
The hotel’s reimagined Article One – American Grill and Bar draws inspiration from Article One of the U.S. Constitution, offering Mid-Atlantic cuisine, curated cocktails, and a lively, collaborative atmosphere. The redesigned lobby features a sunken atrium, new reception area, and workspaces inspired by Capitol blacksmithing traditions. Upgraded corridors, a state-of-the-art fitness center with Peloton bikes, and the indoor pool with outdoor lounge complete the transformation.
Regency Club and Anniversary
The new Regency Club offers Globalist members and club-level guests a refined lounge space with light bites and beverages, showcasing design details referencing the Capitol dome and historic neighborhood interiors.
The renovation comes as Hyatt Regency Washington prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in April 2026. Since opening, the hotel has served legislators, business leaders, and visitors through ten presidential administrations.
