Viking has announced that its newest ocean ship, the Viking Mira, was floated out in Ancona, marking a major construction milestone and the first time the ship has touched water. Classified as a small ship, as are all Viking ocean ships, the Viking Mira has a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, with 499 staterooms that can host 998 guests. The ship is scheduled to debut in spring 2026 and will spend its inaugural season sailing itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
“In our view, together with Fincantieri we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships—and the float out of the Viking Mira marks yet another important milestone as we continue to grow our fleet,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman and CEO of Viking.
The traditional float out ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona and is significant because it denotes a ship moving into its final stage of construction. The float out of the Viking Mira began on July 31 at approximately 11 a.m. local time when the ceremonial cord was cut that signaled water to flow into the ship’s building dock. Following a two-day process that will set the ship afloat, it will be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build-out.
