Welcome to New in Cruise, our bi-weekly update on all the latest happenings in the cruise sector. Here’s what’s been happening in the industry so far in March.
Retro chic is becoming a design theme among the upscale small ships debuting over the next few years, and Atlas Ocean Voyages is hopping on the trend with Atlas Adventurer, debuting in 2028.
The ship already blends modern technology with old-school shipbuilding know-how; Atlas Adventurer will be a hybrid sailing vessel, pairing carbon-fiber solid sails with dual fuel engines and a 9-megawatt marine battery pack. At a press event this week at Seatrade Cruise Global Miami, Atlas Ocean revealed that the design of its guest accommodations, all suites, will be inspired by the golden age of travel, complete with modern touches and a focus on sustainability.

Portuguese studio Oitoemponto is heading up design efforts, “reinterpreting the grandeur of classic travel through a more intimate, human-scale lens,” according to a release. Guests will appreciate Art Deco inspired furnishings, rich and textural materials, and an air of understated opulence throughout the ship.
“Our continued collaboration with Oitoemponto allows us to create an experience that balances the heritage of ocean travel with the expectations of today’s guest, intimate in scale, advanced in design, and grounded in environmental responsibility,” said James A. Rodriguez, President and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages.
The suites will fall into Atlas Ocean Voyages’ newly announced trio of suite categories and will be slightly larger than the accommodations on its existing expedition ships. The ship can carry up to 400 passengers.
The 98 Signature Collection suites include 290-square-foot Panorama Ocean Suites with two giant windows and a cozy window seat, framed by a bookcase, and 290-square-foot Veranda Suites, with a private balcony and small sitting area. These rooms feature a lightly aquamarine colored ceiling and faux-mahogany walls, inspired by photos of luxurious oceanliners from the 1930s.

The 72 Concierge Collection suites include Concierge versions of the same two cabin categories, with increased perks such as premium in-suite amenities, a complimentary bag of laundry, and onboard savings on spa treatments, Wi-Fi and retail purchases. A larger, 375-square-foot Deluxe Concierge Veranda Suite is available as well.
The 30 Reserve Collection suites include two 1,385-square-foot two-bedroom Owner’s Suites (whose final design will be revealed later) and 28 Penthouse Suites, measuring 565 square feet and featuring separate living and sleeping areas divided by a wall.
Connecting cabins are available across categories for families and travel groups.
Atlas Ocean Voyages will reveal public areas in a future announcement. The line has said the ship will feature seven dining options and five bars and lounges, a two-level aft bar with amazing views, and a large spa with new features such as Oxygen Cabins. The aft marina will offer an ocean pool that Mario Ferreira, chairman of Atlas Ocean’s parent company, Mystic Invest Holding, was adamant would have netting to prevent jellyfish and other sea creatures from interfering with guest recreation.
Atlas Adventurer will make its debut in Japan in November 2028 and sail around Southeast Asia before journeying through the Indian Ocean, along the coast of Africa and through the Red Sea to Egypt and the Mediterranean. Details of each sailing will become available in early May.
Rodriguez said pricing isn’t finalized yet but would be in line with Atlas Ocean’s other ships. Prices will reflect a higher APD in Asia than in the Mediterranean.
Reservations open for Atlas Yacht Club members on May 20, 2026, and to the public on June 10.
