Stats: 37 Percent of Summer Travelers Are Using AI to Plan

More than one-third of Americans traveling this summer are using or planning to use artificial intelligence to plan their vacations, according to new data from Allianz Partners‘ Global Travel Confidence Index.

The survey found 37 percent of American travelers are turning to AI for tasks that have long been the bread and butter of the advisor community: destination recommendations, itinerary creation, restaurant suggestions, budget planning, activity recommendations, and general travel research. Allianz Partners says adoption is highest among digitally savvy travelers seeking convenience and personalization.

“Technology is transforming how people research, plan and manage travel,” said Emily Hartman, general manager at Allianz Partners. “Today’s travelers expect seamless digital experiences at every stage of their journey. From AI-powered trip planning to real-time travel assistance, the industry is evolving to meet those expectations, and travel insurance is no exception. Travelers increasingly want protection that is accessible, personalized, and available at their fingertips.”

Bleisure and Remote Work Keep Growing

The research also points to continued momentum for bleisure travel and longer stays. More than one-quarter (28 percent) of Americans plan to work remotely from a destination for a few weeks, while nearly a quarter (23 percent) say they aspire to work remotely for several months in a digital nomad arrangement.

Destinations are responding with expanded co-working spaces, better connectivity, and digital nomad visa programs aimed at location-independent professionals — a trend advisors can leverage when clients ask about extended stays or work-friendly properties.

Clients Expect Digital-First Travel Protection

For advisors selling travel insurance, the survey offers a clear read on client expectations. Among American travelers who plan to purchase travel insurance, nearly two-thirds (64 percent) expect or value 24/7 access to customer support and emergency assistance through a mobile app; almost half (48 percent) want to view and manage their policy digitally; and 45 percent are interested in starting claims online with disruptions handled automatically.

Younger clients are driving the shift. Gen Z (29 percent) and Millennial (26 percent) travelers are significantly more likely than older generations to prioritize digital experiences from travel insurance providers, and 35 percent of Gen Z travelers prefer self-service portals where they can manage their own protection and support needs.

Allianz Partners offers travel insurance through most major U.S. airlines, travel agents, online travel agencies, hotel companies, and cruise lines, as well as directly to consumers. Its Allyz mobile app centralizes services such as accessing medical care and filing and tracking claims.
