Costa Cruises Unveils Solar Eclipse Cruise Departing August 2026

Costa Cruises is offering guests a rare chance to witness a total solar eclipse from the sea with a special itinerary centered around the natural phenomenon. Guests aboard Costa Pacifica will sail directly into the path of totality in the Balearic Sea on Aug. 12, 2026, for a front-row view as the moon passes between the sun and the Earth.

Costa is offering two departures for the eight-day solar eclipse cruise, including from Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy, on Aug. 8, and from Savona, Italy, on Aug. 9. The ship will explore the western Mediterranean visiting Italy, France and Spain. On Aug. 12, Costa Pacifica will reach the Balearic Sea for an extraordinary experience where guests can view the solar eclipse completely unobstructed from the ship’s deck.

“Experiencing a total solar eclipse from the path of totality at sea is truly an extraordinary event we’re thrilled to offer our guests,” said Priscilla Reyes, head of sales for Costa Cruises North America. “Witnessing this awe-inspiring celestial event from the open water, surrounded by clear horizon views and the shared excitement of fellow travelers, transforms this natural phenomenon into a truly unforgettable moment.”

This unique cruise is further enriched by Costa’s eclipse-focused Sea Destination: “Balearic Sea – Solar Eclipse” where the ship will sail into position for the encounter with the total solar eclipse. On the outer decks, guests will observe the eclipse with provided safety glasses and narration offered by a subject-matter expert from the Astronomical Observatory of Genoa, Italy.
